CLOSE TO NEW YORK STANDARDS

Since relocating to the DMV from NYC (shout out to Hair Flair in Jamaica, Queens, NY!!!), it was quite a challenge to find a new hair salon that was up to my expectations and standards. Nola's Dominican Salon is as close as I've gotten. I started coming when it was under another ownership and have remained a steady customer for the past several years because the new owner, Jennifer, is friendly and professional and the staff is also kind and accommodating. They are patient with the needs of my hair and I always leave Nola's with my silvers polished!

Very Impressive

Decided to check this place out after reading the other reviews. Very impressed!!. The service was very good from start to finish. The ladies were very attendant and responsive. The price was only $35 and my hair is long. The blow out service was awesome reminded me a lot of New York {Thanks Quana}. You all have a New Customer!!

Horrible

Every good Dominican salon I have been to never flat iron my hair after a blow out. I just think they dont know how to do a blow out. Not to mention that she really rough when combing my hair out.

My new Dominican Home!

I started coming here as Dominican Sisters and it was ok then, but now that it has a new owner, its AMAZING! They provide excellent customer service...Julisa, the main stylist is amazing. My hair looks great every time she does it. Another reason I come here...they don't over charge! Most Dominican Salons will charge you $45 for a wash and set which is way too much money! They only charge me $35. They undercut EVERY salon in the area but provieds BETTER service. Try this shop out and you won't be disappointed!

I fell in love

In shopping around for a Dominican salon I can call my own, I chose Nola's because of their pricing and location. Its a small yet modern salon with the most curtious stylist and shampoo personnel starting with the receptionist. This is the first salon where I left completely satisfied after my first visit. I finally found a salon to call my own.

I'll be going back! (2 of 2)

Each of her client's hairstyles were nice (not always the case with Dominican Salons - sometimes you can end up with a Diana Ross and The Suprmes, circa 1965 style). All her client's hair was shiny and healthy-looking. I got a slightly curly style, my roots were blown out (ok, yes, the dryer is hot but it was over quickly). She bumped it with flat irons then pincurled it. When she removed the clips, my hair was fragrant, bouncy and shiny! I still can't stop touching it. I will definitely be back, Emily is going to be my new stylist! :) The ladies are nice and the salon is clean, I highly recommend this place.

I'll be going back! (1 of 2)

Yesterday was my first time trying this salon, I read great things about it when it was Dominican Sisters and Nolas didn't disappoint. It was a Sunday afternoon, I arrived at 2:50 and there were only 4 or 5 other customers. There was one stylist and one shampoo/roller girl but they were moving at a pretty good pace. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted by Jennifer who was professional and pleasant. She told me about Nolas, their loyalty program and assured me that they'd do their best to make sure I loved my hair. I've been to other Dominican Salons and haven't always liked my hairstyle so I was skeptical. First, Jennifer washed my hair. She took her time and assaged my scalp.....it was very relaxing. For once, I didn't feel like I was on an assembly line. After I was rolled, I sat under the dryer for about 1 hour. While I was drying, I watched the way the stylist, Emily, was doing everyone's hair.

Te Quiero, Nola! (5 of 5)

They keep the salon clean and the ladies are all friendly! They are sweethearts. I sometimes wish I spoke the whole language as fluently and well like they do, but I'm learning everyday. :) They do turn on music, so the salon is not a ghost town. The ladies just get up and start dancing and it's so cute to watch. They're just being themselves lol. I appreciate that. There are very little to no "hustlers" that sell books, jewelry, purses, etc. that come in throughout the shop. Don't let the area fool you-it may look shady on the outside, but on the inside it's a whole other world. I feel literally like I'm in/at the Dominican Republic.

Te Quiero, Nola! (4 of 5)

The heat from the dryers doesn't effect me when setting or deep conditioning- they cover my ears with a towel to avoid the burning which I think is the most considerate thing ever! NO other hair salon has ever done that for me. Julisa did my hair once again and I loved it even more! :) It was curly, flowy, lightweight, shiny, etc. My hair and scalp were not greasy. The style I got was "straight with a little body." Now, for those who are concerned about heat damage. The heat is intense, I will not lie. But for me, I have realized I have a high tolerance for pain and discomfort when it comes to the blow dryers. Just close your eyes, hold on tight to your skin or the chair lol, and all will be fine. My scalp never burns or any other things like that. Personally, when she blows my scalp out, the heat feels good to me. But not every head of hair is the same. :)

Te Quiero, Nola! (3 of 5)

My aunt always told me that my roots grow faster than my actual shaft- and this is true to this very day. That's why my hair is so thick. (I get it from my father.) I got a wash and set, a deep conditioner and a trim for $60. I thought that was reasonable. And it was worth every penny. :) I also purchased the products they used when they were styling my hair and a cap to help hold my hair while it's wrapped over night. My hair came out great the next day. The 2nd and most recent time I went there was this past Saturday. I was in and out in about an hour and a half. They move fast! But hey, a sista is not complaining lol! I love the feeling of someone else washing my hair; it's just so relaxing and soothing. : ) Dominican shampoos and conditioners are so effective and smell wonderful.

Te Quiero, Nola! (2 of 5)

I've seen the quality of their work on the end results. My aunt and my cousins that live in Silver Spring go get their hair blown out and styled by Dominicans where they live. I lie to you not, my cousin said, "The very first time I went to a Dominican salon, I was...floored, lol. They make your hair just grow, grow, grow." I made a personal decision to grow my hair out of its relaxer for a little over a year now because I didn't want all those chemicals in my head (I'm honestly not to sure when my last relaxer was) and have been natural ever since. I went through buying all types of natural hair products and styling my hair myself. The results were never as I hoped. After gathering all that information, I decided to see what all the hype was about. I went here for my birthday, back in August and let me tell you- I was ecstatic. Julisa did my hair and she hooked me up! She gave me a nice cut and my roots, Lord have mercy my roots were straight- straight as a relaxer!

Te Quiero, Nola! (1 of 5)

Let me first start off by simply saying: I LOVE THIS PLACE. And, knowing me, I don't do reviews on anything so if and when I do, it's serious lol. This salon is my new home. I have had my hair done by my aunt (who is a professional hair stylist), braiders, and have went to other traditional African American salons. I even have tried to save my money (which never works out, :( lol) and set my hair myself. It didn't work out so well. And after 19 years, I am 100% confident in saying that nobody can do my hair like the Dominican girls at Nola's :). And I'm not saying that to offend others in the hair industry. I am so happy The Lord showed me this salon to take care of my hair. :) I've always heard good things about Dominican salons, I've seen videos on the whole blowout process, and from my own relatives,
